Fabrics & Technology
All Dunfri garments are designed using Primaloft® Gold and Primaloft® Black, made with ultra-thin synthetic fibers. The thinner the fiber, the softer and more compressible the material gets, and the padding used in the Dunfri series is made of fibers thinner than a human hair. These ultra-fine synthetic fibers are inherently hydrophobic, meaning the fibers themselves are water resistant. The lofty filament fibers trap heat generated by your body in a soft, resilient layer of warm air that keeps water out but allows moisture to move from the inside out.

What makes our Dunfri insulation garments so popular? Is it because they are the warmest insulation garments? Not really. The lightest? Nope. The most durable? No. To be completely frank, the Dunfri is not the best in any performance category. But it is very good in all of them. It is strong enough to last for years of hard use. Light and compressible enough to always bring in your pack. Warm enough for high alpine environments.
Being almost best at everything is not a very attractive elevator pitch but from a design perspective, Dunfri is a masterpiece. To make a garment like Dunfri, you have to make a thousand decisions and get them just right. The Dunfri Insulation Series features some of our most beloved products and the reason is that they always work. When you start using them, you keep using them and they keep bringing that best-by-not-being-the-best performance year after year.

The Dunfri Insulation Series is not only designed to make life in the wild more comfortable for us humans. It’s also made to ease the pressure on animals and the natural world. Dunfri is Swedish for “down free”, instead we use cutting edge synthetic insulation from Primaloft®. We don’t want to risk hurting any birds for the sake of our comfort. Especially when we have high tech synthetic options that are just as good. Even better when it comes to water resistance and ease of care.
The Dunfri Series is made with circular materials, both padding, outer- and inner fabrics. By designing for circularity from the start and by having a take-back-system, we can safely say that Dunfri is a step towards a waste free world. It also reduces the use of all virgin raw materials, lowering its overall environmental impact.
