Slight, lofty men's insulation shorts padded with Primaloft®. Over-the-knee fit and full side zippers, designed to be worn over or underneath shell pants.
What makes it special?
Smart, technical insulation garments have always been a trademark for Houdini and we call it precision insulation. Men's Dunfri Shorts are designed with a dual purpose. The construction with full length side zippers and durable face fabric is designed for wearing over your pants to provide extra warmth during start-and-stop activities like ski touring or climbing/belaying. But the soft, smooth fabrics and high compressibility of the insulation also makes them great for wearing underneath shell pants, perfect for those really cold days on the ski slopes.
How does it work?
Men's Dunfri Shorts are insulated with Primaloft® Gold. When it comes to insulation, the thinner the fiber, the softer and more compressible the material gets, and the padding used in the Dunfri series is made of ultra-fine synthetic fibers that are inherently hydrophobic, meaning the fibers themselves are water resistant. The loft created by the fibers traps heat generated by your body in a soft, resilient layer of warm air that keeps water out but allows moisture to move from the inside out. The face fabric Switch Woven is an incredibly strong yet light fabric that can take years of hard use and the liner fabric is an ultralight, smooth fabric called Spinner Ripstop. This combination of materials create a highly packable, durable and versatile garment that is perfect for layering and can easily be stored in your backpack to use when you need them.
When should I use them?
Men's Dunfri Shorts are ideal for start-and-stop activities in cold weather when you need extra warmth during pauses. Perfect for ski touring or climbing/belaying. The full side zippers make them easy to take on and off without even stepping out of your skis. You can also wear them as a powerful insulation garment underneath a pair of shell pants for moderate activities in really cold conditions. Also perfect for camp life or even to sleep in when you camp in the winter.
This garment is made with the future in mind using materials fit for recycling. Please return it to Houdini when it is eventually worn out and the raw materials can be used again. This way we reduce the need for virgin resources, decrease environmental impact and waste streams.
Polyester plain weave with dull face. Water repellant, highly wind resistant, lightweight and stowable.
High density ripstop polyester. Water repellant, highly wind resistant, ultralight and stowable.
A highly water repellant, durable and quick drying alternative to down. Exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio.
Our padded garments are made with synthetic insulation from Primaloft. There are many advantages to a synthetic padding compared to down: You don't have to tumble dry the garment with balls to regain the shape, it dries faster and it doesn't smell when it's damp.
The Bluesign® Label means that the production is vetted by a third party to eliminate any harmful chemicals or substances right from the beginning of the production process. This benefits both people, animals and our entire planet.
The Circular label means that this product is made either from recycled and recyclable or renewable and biodegradable fibers. Most products in today's society are made in a linear lifecycle, where earth's resources are extracted, used and then discarded. This is not working in the long run and comes at a great environmental impact. Instead, we want to close the loop and reuse the material we already have. But we need your help. When your Houdini garments are completely worn out, please return them to us through the recycling units we have in all our own stores and at many retailers.
The Recycled label means that this garment contains at least 50% recycled fibers (often more, see product description). The source is either recycled clothes or other sources like PET bottles. We mainly use recycled polyester, which has many benefits. It reduces both CO2 emissions and water use compared to virgin polyester. How much depends on the type of recycling. One of our suppliers show 32% less CO2 emissions and 94% less water use for mechanically recycled polyester. Besides the production impact, the major shift is using "waste" as raw material instead of crude oil.
The Recyclable label means that the raw material in this product can be used for new products, instead of becoming waste. Our goal is that by 2030, we will take no raw material to our products from the earth's crust. Circular products, made from reycled and recyclable materials are a real game changer, but we need your help for the system to work. When your Houdini garments are completely worn out, please return them to us. We have recycle units in all of our own stores and at many retailers.
