Hoodie guide: find the right fleece and merino hoodie

Hoodie-guide: hitta rätt fleecetröja och mellanlager med huva

Hoodies – or Houdis, as we call them – have been our speciality since the Power Houdi launched in 2003. They're all designed to be worn as a midlayer under a shell or on their own, but they differ in material, thickness and fit. Here we compare them so you can find the one that suits you.

Power Houdi – the classic

Power Houdi

Our first Houdi and the one we're best known for. Launched in 2003, it has stayed largely the same ever since. Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro has a smooth, durable outer face and a soft microfleece inside. The slim fit makes it easy to wear under a shell.

  • Fit: slim
  • High collar, snug hood and extended sleeves with thumb loops
  • bluesign® approved fabric
  • In a survey of more than 400 users, the garment had been worn an average of 1,287 times

Everything that's great about the Power Houdi in a more relaxed fit. The roomier silhouette leaves more space for layering and makes it easy to wear every day.

  • Fit: regular
  • Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro with a durable outer face and brushed inside
  • Zipped side pockets and inner stash pockets

Power Up Light Houdi – the lightest

Power Up Light Houdi

A thinner fleece hoodie in Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro Light, for when a regular fleece is too warm. Works as a year-round midlayer and suits higher-output activities.

  • Fit: regular, slightly longer at the back
  • Durable nylon outer face and soft, brushed inside
  • bluesign® certified fabric

Aero Houdi – for high output

Aero Houdi

A light, airy midlayer that dries fast. Works as an outer layer for hiking and running or as a midlayer for skiing. The fabric is constructed to shed fewer microfibres than conventional fleece.

  • Fit: slim
  • Polartec® Air Active with four-way stretch
  • Zipped chest and side pockets, adjustable hem
  • Recycled and recyclable material, bluesign® certified

Mono Air Houdi – warm and award-winning

The Mono Air Houdi has won the ISPO Award Gold and the OR Innovation Award Gold. Instead of exposed fleece fibres, long filament fibres are enclosed in small air pockets between an outer and an inner fabric. This creates warmth, and the fabric sheds up to 80% fewer microfibres than conventional fleece.

  • Fit: regular
  • Four-way stretch, extended sleeves with thumb loops
  • Made from recycled and recyclable fibres, bluesign® certified

Alto Houdi – the warmest, in natural materials

Alto Houdi

Our thickest hoodie, in Woolly Treemerino™: a Swedish-made fabric in 60% merino wool and 40% Tencel®. The merino adds warmth and resists odour, while Tencel® adds structure and moisture transport. For when you want a warm midlayer and prefer natural materials over synthetics.

  • Fit: regular
  • Mulesing-free merino wool
  • Also available as Alto Halfzip and Alto Crew

Frequently asked questions

Which hoodie is the warmest?

The Alto Houdi is our thickest and warmest. Among the fleece hoodies, the Mono Air Houdi and Power Up Houdi are the warmest.

Which works best under a shell jacket?

The Power Houdi and Aero Houdi, thanks to their slim fit and smooth outer face that slides easily under a shell.

Fleece or merino wool?

Fleece dries faster and handles more wear. Merino wool, as in the Alto Houdi, naturally resists odour and feels comfortable against the skin.

Same fabric, but the Power Up Houdi has a more relaxed fit with more room for layers underneath.
