W's The Orange Jacket
Extremely light and packable waterproof women's shell jacket that keeps you protected in any storm, yet takes up no more space in your pack than a small orange.
Description
What makes it special?
In the first stages of development, the garment was nicknamed The Orange. Why? Because the instructions to our design team were to create a whole waterproof, packable shell jacket that, when packed, takes up no more space than an orange. The idea is that you can always put this jacket in your backpack and be prepared for unexpected weather in the mountains. Complete weather protection in an incredibly light and compact form - there you have The Orange Jacket.
How does it work?
The idea of The Orange Jacket for women is actually to allow you to wear other items more. In fact, one waterproof jacket is rarely the most comfortable choice during a run, ski trip or a long climb (usually you want maximum breathability). Still, you shouldn't set out without one given the unpredictable weather conditions in the mountains. That's why we designed one completely waterproof shell jacket that you can take with you effortlessly and yet always be ready if you are caught off guard by bad weather. And when you need it, the ultra-light, soft and quiet fabric will make the garment extremely comfortable to wear.
What characteristics does it have?
The Orange Jacket is a minimalist jacket and we haven't added features other than those necessary to reduce weight and volume. A chest pocket and a hood that can be rolled down. The garment's main feature is the concept and how it feels to wear. This is no ordinary shell jacket, but a whole new kind of ultra-lightweight softness that you hardly feel you're wearing but still keeps you warm and dry in any storm.
When to use it?
The Orange Jacket ladies is designed for alpine sports where weight and packability are essential: runs, ski tours, mountaineering or rope climbing. When it's in the backpack, you won't feel it, but when the storm hits, it'll keep you dry and happy. Of course, it also works as a super light and comfortable rain jacket for all the times you're not up in the mountains.

Care advice
Shell jackets with membrane
- Air clothes instead of washing if the clothes are not too dirty. You save water, energy and it makes the clothes last longer. However, if you have used the garment in salt water, if it has become really dirty or sweaty, you should wash it. Otherwise, the ventilation in the garment may deteriorate and moisture may even leak in through the dirt.
- Use one laundry bag. It is important when washing synthetic clothes as it protects your garments and prevents microfibers from leaking out. When cleaning the bag and filter in the machine, make sure to wipe clean and dispose of lint in the bin. Never rinse the laundry bag with water as the fibers can then end up in lakes and oceans.
- Wash at a maximum of 40 degrees.
- There are special detergents for shell layers, but it usually works just as well with the most common varieties. Choose mild environmentally certified detergents and make sure you use the right dose.
- Avoid fabric softener. In addition to being bad for the environment, it impairs the garment's performance, especially moisture transport and drying time.
- Hang dry, but add heat to the garment after washing so that the water-repellent surface of the outer fabric is reactivated. Use a heating cabinet, tumble dryer or iron, just make sure to keep an eye on the heat so the garment doesn't melt.
- You can strengthen the impregnation in the garment with a wash-in or spray that you can find in the webshop or in our stores.
sustainability
circular
This product is completely circular, which means it is made from either recycled and recyclable or renewable and biodegradable materials. Most products in today's society are linear, where the earth's resources are extracted, used and then discarded. This does not work in the long run and causes enormous strain on the environment. Instead, we want to close the circle and reuse the materials we already have. But we need your help. When your Houdini products are completely worn out, return them to us through our recycling units located in all our own stores and many retailers.
recycled
The label recycled means that this garment contains at least 50% recycled fibers (often more, see product description). The source is either recycled clothing or other sources such as PET bottles. We mainly use recycled polyester, which has many advantages. It reduces both CO2 emissions and water use compared to virgin polyester. One of our suppliers shows that mechanically recycled polyester saves 32% CO2 and uses 94% less water. In addition to the footprint of production, the big difference is that we use "waste" as raw material instead of crude oil.
Recyclable
The label Recyclable means that the fabric in this product is completely recyclable. Instead of becoming waste, the material can be used to manufacture new products. Our goal is to take no material from the earth's crust into our products by 2030. Circular products, made from recycled and recyclable materials, is a big change but we need your help to make the system work. Return your Houdini garments to us when they are completely worn out. We have recycling units in all our own stores and at many retailers.
