Desoli Thermal Balaclava
Technical balaclava in 100% merino wool, made in the exquisite Solid Gridmerino™ – an Italian, all-natural functional material.
Description
What makes it special?
Finding a well-fitting functional balaclava designed specifically for high-intensity outdoor sports is not easy. Finding one in 100% super fine merino wool with this level of technicality and comfort is basically unique. Desoli Thermal Balaclava is the perfect combination of natural comfort and technical performance.
How does it work?
Solid Gridmerino™ is an extraordinary fabric. It has technical properties rarely seen in 100% wool fabrics. The grid-patterned structure creates an air layer in the fabric, which provides both warmth and breathability. It has a high warmth-to-weight ratio and dries quickly. Merino wool retains its insulating ability even when it gets damp or wet - perfect for a balaclava that is easily affected by moisture from your breathing. The face shield can be folded up or down as needed.
Solid Gridmerino™ is manufactured by Reda in northern Italy. The wool is 100% ZQ-certified super-fine grain merino wool (17.5 µm) from Reda's own farms in New Zealand. By owning the entire production chain, Reda can ensure both animal welfare and high environmental standards.
When should I use it?
Desoli Thermal Balaclava is designed for outdoor sports in cold weather: Alpine skiing, ice climbing, cross country skates, cross country skiing or winter running. The low-profile seams and precise fit make it great for wearing under a helmet.
This garment is made with the future in mind, using materials suitable for recycling. When it is finally worn out, please return it to Houdini so that the raw materials can be used again. In this way, we reduce the need for virgin resources, reduce environmental impact and limit waste.

Care advice
Woolen clothing
Wool is a fantastic material that has natural dirt and bacteria resistance. Therefore, wool does not need to be washed after each use. Hang up and vent instead. Too much washing deteriorates the wool's properties and wears out the garments unnecessarily.
- Feel free to use a laundry bag that protects your garments.
- Wash with a gentle program or wool program, maximum 30 degrees.
- Preferably use wool detergent and be sure to use the correct dosage. If you do not have detergent for wool, you can use mild environmentally certified detergents. Then choose a detergent without enzymes that has a neutral pH.
- Avoid bleaches, alkaline substances that raise the pH value and enzymes such as proteases or amylase because some enzymes break down proteins and fats in the wool. This also applies to silk.
- Avoid fabric softener. In addition to being bad for the environment, it impairs the garment's performance, especially moisture transport and drying time.
- Do not tumble dry, in addition to being bad for the environment, wool garments are sensitive to high heat.
- Shape the garment after washing and let it dry flat on, for example, a towel.
- As wool is a natural and living material, it is relatively easily shaped by external influences. Therefore, store your woolen garments folded and do not hang them on hangers to avoid the garments losing their shape.
sustainability
Recyclable
The label Recyclable means that the raw material in this product can be used to create new products instead of becoming waste. Our goal is that by 2030 at the latest, we shall not take any raw material from the interior of the earth for our products. Circular products – made from recycled and recyclable materials – are truly groundbreaking, but we need your help to make the system work. When your Houdini garments are completely worn out, please return them to us. We have recycling stations in all our own stores and at many retailers.
Biologically biodegradable
The label Biological biodegradable means that the natural fibers in our products are never mixed with synthetic materials, and we do not use harmful chemicals. Therefore, the fabric can be composted and nature transforms it into fertile soil. Details such as laundry advice patches, zippers, seams, etc. must be removed and can often be recycled separately. If you don't have your own compost, you can hand in the worn-out garment to us. We have recycling stations in all our own stores and at many retailers.
circular
The marking circular means that this product is made from either recycled and recyclable or renewable and biodegradable fibres. Most products in today's society are manufactured according to a linear life cycle where the earth's resources are extracted, used and then thrown away. This does not work in the long run and involves a large environmental impact. Instead, we want to end the cycle and reuse materials we already have. But we need your help. When your Houdini garments are completely worn out, please return them to our recycling stations in our own stores or at many retailers.
