Airweb™ Knit: Feather-light insulation for the future

Meet the light, active insulation of the future. By combining a unique textured yarn with ground-breaking 3D knitting technology, we create a concept for knitted functional garments that is nothing short of revolutionary.

The yarn

For the Airweb™ Knit insulation, we use a textured yarn that combines Teijin Waveron™ and Teijin Deltapeak™. The result is a strong and stretchy material with a soft, "fluffy" character. The Waveron™ fibers have a flat cross-section with longitudinal grooves. This microstructure provides efficient moisture transport and a soft, fluid feel. It also makes it possible to create knit fabrics with an open structure that increases airflow without being see-through.

The knitting

Airweb™ Knit uses Shima-Seiki Wholegarment – an advanced 3D knitting technology where different panels of the garment can be knitted in different structures, seamlessly. The technology makes it possible to design garments that feel like a natural extension of the body, provide full freedom of movement and never interfere with the layer-on-layer system.

The material

The unique combination of yarn and knitting technology creates a material that balances performance and comfort. Airweb™ Knit is incredibly soft, supple and comfortable directly against the skin. The airy fibers combined with the open structure build an insulating layer of warm air with a breathability that conventional fabrics cannot match. The structure of the material quickly ventilates away excess heat and moisture. The high elasticity and recovery provide total freedom of movement and a completely unhindered feeling.

Zero Waste design

In addition to the functional aspects, Airweb™ Knit is a forerunner in sustainability. The fabric is made of 100% recycled and recyclable polyester, which reduces climate impact and waste flows. The 3D knitting technology eliminates almost all production waste as no fabric needs to be cut. The material is also designed to prevent fiber release during normal wear and tear.

High pulse, cold weather

Staying warm is easy: put on more clothes. The challenge is to stay just right warm – comfortable but without overheating, especially when running, cross-country skiing or walking ski touring. Building up excess heat or moisture is one of the most common problems with high-intensity activities. It makes you uncomfortable, disrupts flow, lowers performance and leaves you cold when you stop for a break.

The open structure of the Lykan fabric makes it relatively cool to wear as a single layer, but very warm under an outer garment. The combination of advanced 3D knitting and unique yarn makes Airweb™ Knit feel like part of the body, with unlimited freedom of movement. It is incredibly soft and comfortable directly against the skin as a base layer, or over one base layer in merino wool as an airy midlayer. This is the key to a perfect layer-on-layer system for high heart rate activities
