Jo Pants are developed together with (and named after) our friend Josef, an IFMGA mountain guide that works with Houdini in Norway. The pants are durable enough for skiing in the winter, but light and agile enough for hiking or climbing in the summer.
Jo Pants are made in a stretchy, waterproof and breathable shell fabric called Loop 3 layer Hardshell. It’s made from 70% recycled polyester and is completely recyclable. The membrane, our well tested Atmos, and water repellent is completely fluorocarbon free.
We have designed Jo Pants using our design concept Made to Move, where the garment is draped directly on a moving body instead of traditional flat garment construction. This gives the product complete freedom of movement. The legs have full side zippers for ventilation and to easily get in and out of them. All zippers and seams are water sealed. Jo Pants are a great choice for adventures all year around. You can bring them on everything from ski touring to rad climbing or kayaking. When they are completely worn out, return them to us for recycling. We have recycling units at all our own stores and at many retailers.
A durable fabric with mechanical stretch for high comfort. Tough and silent with a dull and smooth face. Waterproof, breathable, ripstop construction with good abrasion resistance.
Atmos™ Membrane is a hydrophilic membrane, not micro porous, and at the molecular-level moisture moves through the fabrics. The more moisture that is in circulation the greater the ability of the membrane to move moisture away from your body. With Atmos we are sure we have a membrane that delivers Houdini standards when it comes to high performance in an environmentally sustainable way, which no other membrane at the market can live up to. Atmos™ membrane is made from recyclable polyester.
Our shells with a membrane are made in 2, 2.5 or 3 layers. The construction of the garment differs depending on how many layers it has. Let us break it down for you: A 2 layer shell always has a separate lining on the inside to protect the membrane. A 2.5 layer shell is a lighter shell that has an outer fabric, which is laminated with a membrane. Then, a protective print is added over the membrane, forming the last layer closest to the skin. 3 layer shells have an outer fabric laminated with a membrane and a thin knitted or woven lining on the inside. This makes the 3 layer shell more durable than a 2.5 layer shell, but it is also a bit heavier.
This product is fully circular, meaning that it's made either from recycled and recyclable or renewable and biodegradable fibers. Most products in today's society are made in a linear lifecycle, where earth's resources are extracted, used and then discarded. This is not working in the long run and comes at a great environmental impact. Instead, we want to close the loop and reuse the material we already have. But we need your help. When your Houdini garments are completely worn out, please return them to us through the recycling units we have in all our own stores and at many retailers.
At least 50% of the fibers in this garment come from recycled sources, either recycled clothes or other sources like PET bottles. We mainly use recycled polyester, which has many benefits. It reduces both CO2 emissions and water use compared to virgin polyester. How much depends on the type of recycling. One of our suppliers show 32% less CO2 emissions and 94% less water use for mechanically recycled polyester. Besides the production impact, the major shift is using "waste" as raw material instead of crude oil.
The fabric in this garment is fully recyclable. Instead of becoming waste, the raw material can be used for new products. Our goal is that by 2030, we will take no raw material to our products from the earth's crust. Circular products, made from reycled and recyclable materials is a real game changer, but we need your help for the system to work. When your Houdini garments are completely worn out, please return them to us. We have recycle units in all of our own stores and at many retailers.
This product is Bluesign® certified, meaning that the production is vetted by a third party to eliminate any harmful chemicals or substances right from the beginning of the production process. This benefits both people, animals and our entire planet.

A sustainable choice
Circular design - Towards a world without waste
We believe in circular design. Sometimes we use recycled and recyclable synthetics and sometime natural fibers. Both have their merits, but the important thing is that we save the planets resrouces and don't create any waste. On a system level, it makes a huge difference.
